The Boswellia dalzielii is a tree native to the sahel zone in the North of Nigeria, where its resin is called “Harrabi”. Usually, the tree is harvested by the Fulani. The traditional use of the paper-like, peeling-off bark of Boswellia dalzielii far exceeds the local use of the greenish-bright resin.
The climatically dissimilar conditions of Nigeria, located in West Africa, compared to Somalia in East Africa are visible in the significantly different fragrance profile. It shows a higher amount of highly volatile constituents compared to Beeyo (Boswellia carterii) and Maydi (Boswellia frereana).
The fragrance of Harrabi (Boswellia dalzielii) is therefore distinctly more crisp than its congeners. We smell the fresh air of pine forests, herbaceous notes and subtle eucalyptic components.
The scent takes us to the sauna, where relaxed sweating and cooling freshness are no contradiction. Over time, minty but also fruity, orange-like notes become perceptible.
Harrabi (Boswellia dalzielii) is a light and, therefore, more volatile scent than the other frankincense genera, its balsamic components demonstrate restraint. The essential oil behaves almost like a top note.
Closely accompanied from the resin harvest to the bottle
We buy the frankincense resin directly from small farmers. It originates from wild-growing trees in Somalia. Our farmers collect, clean and sort it. We support this process on site and, after many years of gathering knowledge and experience, are able to assess the quality of the resins ourselves.
We accompany the entire production process, from the resin to the bottle. We extract frankincense hydrosol and essential oil from the high-quality raw material by means of gentle steam distillation.
Varietal purity is very important to us, because like this the different characters of the various types of frankincense can be experienced.
